The treadmill market, in numbers.
Treadmill Statistics 2027 is FitGearHQ’s Amazon-focused market snapshot built from 80 model-level observations across 24 normalized brand identities, plus a separate audit of seven major U.S. manufacturer catalogs to show what buyers actually get at each price and performance level.
Data snapshot: September 18, 2026. Prices and availability can change.

Under $500
55.0% of the model-level observations in this Amazon-focused sample were priced below $500 at the snapshot.
Foldable
Folding is common in the model-level sample.
Bluetooth
61 of 72 models with known Bluetooth status; 8 models have missing data.
300 lb+
A 300-lb capacity is the mainstream benchmark.
Three audiences, three ways to use the data
Buyers
Use the price, deck, speed, capacity and incline benchmarks to see what “normal” looks like before comparing individual models.
Journalists & publishers
Use the quick-stat cards, charts and methodology as citation-ready market context. Attribution guidance appears at the bottom of the report.
Industry & SEO researchers
Use the brand mix, feature penetration and manufacturer-catalog audit to understand how the online treadmill market is segmented.
Most models in this dataset are inexpensive — but premium models stretch the ceiling
The median observed price is $447.79, while the mean is $726.48. That gap is the clearest sign of a long premium tail.
What it means: a buyer shopping at $700–$1,000 is already above the median price in this dataset, but still well below the premium connected-fitness tier.
Related guides: Best Budget Treadmill, Best Treadmill Under $1,000, and Best Treadmill Under $2,000. For broader price-to-quality comparisons, see Best Value Treadmill and Best Premium Treadmill.

300 lb is mainstream. 350+ lb is still selective.
The median capacity is 300 lb. While 72.5% support at least 300 lb, 22.5% reach 350 lb and 8.8% reach 400 lb.
See our best treadmills for heavy people and best treadmills for heavy runners. If structural robustness is the main priority, compare our Best Durable Treadmill guide.
10 mph is common. 12 mph is still a premium-performance threshold.
Median max speed
10 mph. 51.3% of model-level observations reach at least 10 mph.
12 mph+
25.0% reach 12 mph or more; 2.5% exceed 12 mph.
Median motor rating
2.9 HP in the model-level dataset, with a 2.5 HP 25th percentile and 3.0 HP 75th percentile.
Maximum observed speed
14 mph, versus a low-end maximum of 3.73 mph among walking-oriented machines.
For training-specific picks, see Best Treadmill for Running, Best Treadmill for Jogging, and Best Treadmill for Tall Runners. For conditioning goals, compare Best Treadmill for Cardio, Best Treadmill for HIIT, and Best Treadmill for Weight Loss.
Incline is mainstream. Decline remains niche.
10%+ incline
76.3% of model-level observations reach at least 10% incline.
12%+ incline
12% is the median maximum incline.
15%+ incline
23.8% of model-level observations reach 15%.
Decline
Positive decline capability is still uncommon in this 80-model Amazon-focused dataset.
At the premium end, NordicTrack’s X Series pushes well beyond the quantitative sample, with current X16/X24 models advertising up to 40% incline and -6% decline. See Best Treadmill With Incline.
A full running deck is not the default.
The median belt is only 16.5 inches wide × 47.2 inches long. The Amazon-heavy online market includes many walking pads and compact treadmills, so a traditional 20 × 60-inch running surface is a minority configuration.
Deck dimensions are only one part of comfort and stability. Buyers prioritizing joint comfort or support can also compare Best Treadmill for Bad Knees and Best Treadmill for Seniors.
20 in+ wide
33.8% of model-level observations.
22 in wide
10.0% of model-level observations.
55 in+ long
36.3% of model-level observations.
60 in+ long
23.8% of model-level observations.

In this Amazon-focused dataset, treadmills are usually foldable and connected — but not screen-first.
What it means: app connectivity has become mainstream without requiring a premium built-in display. Many buyers can save money by bringing their own phone or tablet.
For feature-led comparisons, see Best Treadmill With Screen, Best Treadmill Without Subscription, and Best Treadmill With Classes.

Folding is common in the Amazon-focused sample.
With 83.8% of model-level observations with recorded folding data folding for storage, this Amazon-focused sample is heavily optimized around shared rooms, apartments and multipurpose spaces.
For space-first buyers, compare Best Folding Treadmill, Best Treadmill for Small Spaces, and Best Treadmill for Apartment. For broader household buying, see Best Treadmill for Home; if shared-room noise is the main constraint, see Best Quiet Treadmill.
Other Amazon brands dominate model count; major manufacturers dominate premium positioning.
The quantitative sample is intentionally Amazon-focused, so brands with many tracked Amazon listings contribute more observations. To avoid mistaking this Amazon selection for the whole U.S. market, we separately audit current manufacturer catalogs and keep that context layer outside the 80-model calculations.
42 current catalog positions across seven major U.S. brands
“Current” means the model appears in the manufacturer’s active U.S. treadmill catalog at the time of our audit. It does not imply every model was in stock on the exact snapshot date.
What these 2027 treadmill statistics actually mean
Budget buyers
Within this Amazon-focused dataset, most observed models are below $1,000. A premium budget is not required to access a large share of the sampled listings.
Serious runners
Full-size running decks and 12 mph top speeds remain minority features. Running suitability should be verified, not assumed.
Heavy users
300 lb is common, but 350–400 lb capacity quickly narrows the field. Capacity is a real segmentation line.
Tech-focused buyers
Bluetooth is common; touchscreens are not. Connectivity does not require paying for an integrated display.
Incline-focused users
Incline is mainstream, but decline is still a premium differentiator.
Small-space buyers
Folding is nearly standard, but compact decks often trade away running room. Storage convenience and stride space should be evaluated together.

What this dataset can — and cannot — tell you
This study is designed to answer a practical question: what does the treadmill selection tracked by FitGearHQ on Amazon US actually look like? Buyers often compare specifications without knowing whether a feature is common, unusual, premium, or simply marketing language.
For buyers
The dataset provides a benchmark. A 300-lb capacity, 12% incline, 20-inch belt, 12 mph top speed, or touchscreen means more when you know how common each feature is among the Amazon models observed.
For journalists & publishers
Every quantitative result can be traced to exact Amazon ASINs, a dated snapshot, disclosed inclusion rules, and stated calculation methods.
For industry researchers
The subgroup analysis shows how the Amazon selection from major manufacturers differs from the rest of the Amazon-focused dataset.
What it does not measure
This is not sales-share research. One distinct model configuration equals one observation, regardless of unit sales, revenue, traffic, or installed base.
Accordingly, conclusions on this page describe the distribution of models in the FitGearHQ Amazon-focused dataset. They do not describe the distribution of U.S. treadmill sales, ownership, revenue, or market share.
Population, snapshot and unit of analysis
Target population: consumer treadmill models actively available on Amazon US at the September 18, 2026 snapshot and meeting FitGearHQ’s published study eligibility rules.
Unit of analysis: the treadmill model family, not the color variant or marketplace listing. When several Amazon ASINs represent the same underlying model with color or listing variations, they are consolidated into one model-level observation. If Amazon sells an older generation while the manufacturer’s website promotes a newer generation, the Amazon-sold generation remains the one analyzed.
Dataset size: 80 distinct model configurations across 24 normalized brand identities, represented by 83 Amazon US source ASINs. Four additional source ASINs with unresolved identity or core-specification conflicts are excluded from the first-edition calculations.
Separate context layer: manufacturer websites are used in a distinct Current Manufacturer Catalog Audit. Specifications from a newer manufacturer-site model are never substituted for a different or older Amazon version represented by a tracked ASIN.
How a treadmill enters — or leaves — the dataset
Included
A treadmill must be an identifiable consumer/home-fitness model actively available on Amazon US on the snapshot date, have sufficient product identity to distinguish its model family, and meet FitGearHQ’s study trust requirements.
Excluded
Models marked unavailable or removed, products failing the trust gate, and products outside the consumer treadmill scope are excluded from the quantitative sample.
Exact generations
Different product generations remain separate model families when they are materially different products. A newer manufacturer-direct generation does not silently replace the specifications of the Amazon-sold generation included in this study.
Variant consolidation
Only equivalent configurations are consolidated. Different incline systems, running decks, motors, or functional equipment remain separate, even when they share a series name or parent listing. Listings with unresolved model identity or conflicting core specifications are excluded from this edition.
Where the product data comes from
The quantitative study is Amazon-centric by design. It follows the versions actually offered on Amazon US, not whichever generation happens to be newest on a manufacturer’s own website.
1. Amazon listing / supplier data
The exact Amazon US listing tied to the tracked ASIN is the primary reference for the Amazon version: model identity, observed price, availability, and specifications supplied for that listing.
2. Manufacturer sources
Manufacturer sites and documentation may provide secondary context or cross-checking. They do not overwrite the tracked Amazon version when the manufacturer is selling a newer or different generation.
3. FitGearHQ calculations
Means, medians, quartiles, percentages, thresholds, and subgroup comparisons are calculated from the structured fields after the inclusion filter is applied.
4. Editorial / decision data
FitScore, trust labels, Best Overall/Best Value roles, and other buying-guide judgments are editorial variables. They are not market specifications and are not mixed into the descriptive market statistics unless explicitly identified.
Raw, calculated and editorial variables are separated
One parent dataset, two transparent Amazon subgroups
To avoid an ambiguous “Amazon-first” classification, the study uses one parent population and two mutually exclusive subgroups.
Amazon Quantitative Dataset — 80 model families
The full population used for the headline statistics: 80 distinct configurations represented by 83 source ASINs.
Major Manufacturer Amazon Subset — 34 model families
Amazon-listed models from the seven brands that are also independently covered in the manufacturer-catalog audit: NordicTrack, ProForm, Horizon, SOLE, XTERRA, Schwinn Fitness, and Peloton.
Other Amazon Brands — 46 model families
Every remaining included model family. This is a residual category, not a quality judgment: if a model’s brand is not one of the seven audited manufacturers, it belongs here.
Current Manufacturer Catalog Audit — separate
A contextual review of models currently shown on those seven manufacturers’ own U.S. sites. These can differ from Amazon versions and are not merged into the 80-model calculations.
The classification is deterministic: subgroup membership depends only on whether the model’s recorded brand belongs to the seven-brand manufacturer-audit list.
The two Amazon subgroups describe very different shopping environments
Running surface
The Major Manufacturer Amazon subset has a median recorded belt of 20 × 59.5 in, versus 16 × 40 in for Other Amazon Brands.
User capacity
Both subgroups have a 300-lb median, showing why capacity alone does not capture the large differences in price, speed, and deck size.
Interpretation: the 80-model headline figures describe FitGearHQ’s Amazon-focused selection as a whole. For traditional full-size running treadmills, the Major Manufacturer Amazon subset may be the more relevant benchmark. For walking pads, compact treadmills, and lower-cost marketplace options, the broader dataset provides the more relevant context.
How the statistics are calculated
Mean: arithmetic average of the non-missing values for the field.
Median: 50th percentile of the sorted non-missing values. With an even number of observations, it can fall between the two central observations.
Quartiles and linear interpolation: the 25th and 75th percentiles show where the lower and upper quarters of the model distribution sit. When the exact percentile position falls between two ordered observations, linear interpolation estimates the value proportionally between those two neighbors instead of arbitrarily rounding to one of them. Its goal is to produce a stable, standard percentile estimate for continuous specifications such as price, speed, or deck size.
Threshold percentages: the share of model-level observations that meet or exceed a meaningful benchmark — for example, 300 lb capacity, 12 mph, or 20-inch deck width. The goal is to show how common a practically important feature is, rather than only reporting an average. The denominator includes only models with a recorded value for that field; missing values are excluded rather than treated as zero.
Prices and MSRP: prices in this study are point-in-time Amazon prices observed at the snapshot. MSRP means Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price: the reference/list price recommended by a manufacturer, which may differ substantially from the price a shopper actually sees on Amazon. The goal here is to measure the observed shopping environment, so Amazon prices — not MSRP — drive the price statistics.
Variant aggregation: the analysis counts distinct model configurations. Equivalent color/listing variants are consolidated only after comparing their specifications. Their observed prices are summarized by the median. Numeric specifications are normalized for units and minor rounding before aggregation; materially different hardware is not averaged into a synthetic model. This gives each configuration equal weight regardless of its number of color listings. For categorical fields such as Bluetooth or heart-rate support, a family is included only when the known variant values are consistent; conflicting variant values are treated as missing for that field.
No sales weighting: every included model family counts as one observation. The study does not weight models by sales rank, revenue, unit sales, traffic, or installed base.
Every model family included in the 80-model analysis
Transparency requires more than a headline sample size. The included model families are listed below with the Amazon US ASINs used as source listings. Color and listing variants of the same underlying model are grouped together rather than counted as separate statistical observations.

How to interpret the results responsibly
Amazon selection bias
The parent dataset reflects FitGearHQ’s Amazon-focused coverage. Direct-to-consumer and specialty-retail products can be underrepresented.
Model-count bias
Brands with more distinct included model configurations contribute more observations. The statistics describe models, not brand market share.
Listing quality
Amazon specifications are supplied by sellers/manufacturers and can contain inconsistencies. FitGearHQ structures and reviews the records, but marketplace data is not equivalent to independently laboratory-measured specifications.
Price volatility
Amazon prices can change quickly. Price statistics are point-in-time observations, not permanent market prices.
Generation mismatch
An Amazon ASIN may represent a generation different from the current manufacturer-direct model. The study intentionally preserves that distinction.
No sales inference
The study cannot support “55.0% of treadmills sold cost under $500.” It can support “55.0% of model-level observations in this 80-model dataset were priced under $500 at the snapshot.”
Edition and update policy
First edition: based on the September 18, 2026 Amazon data snapshot.
FitGearHQ can update availability, exact ASIN coverage, prices, specifications, or manufacturer-catalog context as the market changes. When a material change alters the analytical population or a headline statistic, the page should be re-calculated and the research version/date updated rather than silently mixing snapshots.
This first edition uses 80 model-level observations. Same-model color or listing variants are consolidated so that a model with several Amazon variants does not receive disproportionate statistical weight.
