How to read these treadmill ratings

What the score means, and why it can differ from a guide or a review.

How we score →

One all-round scale

Each model is scored on six categories and weighted like our best treadmill for home guide (Performance 20%, Durability 20%, Comfort 20%, Practicality 15%, Features 15%, Affordability 10%). The same scale for every model makes the list sortable.

Guides use their own weights

A Best guide re-weights the same six categories for its situation (running, small spaces, heavy users…), so a model can rank higher there than on this list, or lower.

Specs from product data

Motor, speed, incline, belt, user weight and folding come from the Amazon listing and the maker, checked when we score a model. A missing chip means the spec is not listed.

Reviews show the FitScore for the use each model is mainly bought for, and Best guides show the score for their own situation; both are linked from each card. Models no longer sold on Amazon keep their last score for reference. Before buying any treadmill, you can check it against the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall list.

Treadmill ratings: common questions

What are the best rated treadmills?

On our all-round scale the top current models are Horizon 7.4 AT, Horizon 7.0 AT, Sole F80. For a specific need, such as running, a small space or a heavy user, open the matching Best guide: it re-weights the scores for that situation.

How are these treadmill ratings calculated?

Each model gets a score out of 100 in six categories from its specs and owner feedback. The all-round FitScore weights them like our best treadmill for home guide, with the same rounding as our database.

Why does a review show a different FitScore?

A review scores the model for the use it is mainly bought for, with that guide's weights. This page uses one all-round scale for every model so they can be sorted together.

What does "No longer available" mean?

Amazon no longer sells that model, or it has been out of stock for at least a week. We keep its score for reference, remove the shopping link and point to our review, a comparison or current models with a similar spec.

How often is this list updated?

Whenever we score a new model or Amazon availability changes. Availability is checked automatically, and a model stays listed as current during its first week out of stock.
